GOING dry in July is bringing in a flood of donations to make the lives of adult cancer patients more comfortable in the region.

The North West Cancer Council accommodation and support services co-ordinator Shaen Fraser has joined others across the country to stop drinking alcohol for the month as she helps to raise money for Inala House and the North West Cancer Centre.
“We have raised $5800 from Dry July and we have lots of projects in mind for the money,” she said.
“Dry July is all about making an adult’s cancer journey more comfortable.”
Projects include more comfortable wheelchairs at the North West Cancer Centre, Foxtel at Inala House, a quiet room for families at the cancer centre and vanity units for bathrooms at Inala House, which is the residential accommodation for cancer patients who live more than 100km from Tamworth.
This is the fourth year Ms Fraser has raised money for cancer by giving up alcohol for July.
“It just shows how easy it can be to give it up,” she said.
“It also shows how often alcohol is in your lifestyle and Australia’s lifestyle. It is a fundraiser, but it also backs up what we’re saying about alcohol being involved in cancer and limiting your intake. Dry July is a good opportunity to sit back and look at your lifestyle.”
Ms Fraser said she hoped they could raise $10,000 because it would enable them to complete all their projects and also offer funds for the Transport to Treatment service to keep it free for cancer patients.
