TAMWORTH regional councillors unanimously passed council’s annual operation plan for the next financial year at last night’s meeting.

The 2016/17 annual operational plan outlines more than $57 million in capital works for the region, with more than $27 million set aside for new and improved infrastructure, and more than $29 million for renewed projects.
Mayor Col Murray said improving council’s extensive road network was a major focus for council over the next financial year.
“[There is] more than $12.5 million budgeted to renew and upgrade transport infrastructure across the region, with a further $526,362 allocated to enhance car parking availability,” Cr Murray said.
“Council has been working very hard over recent years to increase its efficiency, specifically so we can deliver this kind of result.”
More than $21 million will be spent on major projects in Tamworth, while Manilla will get more than $12 million of new and upgraded infrastructure, including a new $8 million water treatment plant.
Cr Murray said there was an extensive community consultation period for the plan, including a roadshow, which saw a record amount of feedback from residents.
Some of the recurring themes from the consultation included more CCTV, upgrades to popular playgrounds and more investment in both big and small road projects.
“I’m pleased to say that most of these are addressed in our annual operational plan and that the community’s feedback will be used when assessing future projects,” Cr Murray said.
