The ceremony will include Slim’s family – wife Joy McKean, daughter Anne Kirkpatrick and son David Kirkpatrick – and special guest performances including one of Slim’s most famous recordings ‘We’ve Done Us Proud’ by its composer Graeme Connors and the West Kempsey Primary School Choir, and other surprise performances.
Artists including Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey will also attend the opening.
The Slim Dusty Centre includes a museum, travelling exhibition gallery, visitors centre, retail shop called The General Store, function centre and the Dusty’s Dinner Camp Café which will all be operating as usual on opening day.
The centre opened to the public on October 17 and caters for everyone as a a tribute to the country music icon and to help to tell the story of Australia.
To coincide with the opening of the Slim Dusty Centre, EMI Music will release a new Slim Dusty album, The Den Tapes. Released on November 13, the new album features 10 recently unearthed recordings and represent the last known unreleased songs by Slim.
