Anticipation levels across the community have been steadily building since the playground’s construction in August, which involved more than 700 volunteers from across the community.
The final touches are now being put in place with rubberised softfall surfacing going in this week, making the playground fully wheelchair accessible.
Gates will open at 8.30am on November 1 and events will culminate with a cutting of the ribbon at 10am, after which the playground will be open for all children and their families to enjoy.
Tamworth Regional Council is assisting with preparations for the day, which will include family activities, a sausage sizzle and live music.
Tamworth Adventure Playground committee president Charles Impey said he expected hundreds of people to attend the opening.
“I hope that everyone who has been involved, including donors, sponsor businesses, community groups and our many construction volunteers, are able to be part of the special day,” Mr Impey said.
“We have deeply appreciated the support given us by all parts of the community over many years, and it is thanks to them that this playground will now be open for all children to enjoy.”
Children from Goodstart Early Learning are working to create special thank you cards to be presented to construction volunteers at the gala opening.
“It is beautifully symbolic that our children would like to express their thanks with some very special hand-made cards,” Mr Impey said.
Engraved fence pickets for the playground will be sold on the day and will be the final chance for Tamworth families to arrange to have their names engraved in part of this unique community project.
As parking is limited at the Marsupial Park, Mr Impey suggests people try to drop off as many family members as possible at the park entrance and leave their car at the botanic gardens.
The 500m walking trail between the botanic gardens and Marsupial Park will be clearly signposted for the event.
