Curious locals who took advantage of the open day’s guided tours gave the completed five-storey building a resounding tick of approval.
The new hospital, which is expected to officially open next month, took four years and a staggering 570,000 man hours to construct.
Tamworth woman Katie Deakin, who attended the open day with friends, said she was blown away with the size of the facility.
“I thought it was fantastic,” she said.

“There’s obviously a lot more space, which is great, and it was all very shiny and new.
“The old one was just a bit small, but the new one is more open and there’s a lot of seating throughout the whole place.”
Fellow open day attendee Narelle Mc-Kinnon was equally impressed with what she saw and said the $220 million appeared to be money very well spent.

“I thought it was lovely,” she said. “I took my mother and mother-in-law because we thought it was a good opportunity to check it out. It was all very impressive.”
A group of volunteers were on-hand to show residents through the new hospital, including the emergency department, medical ward, main entrance and foyer.
