One hundred and sixty gymnasts attended the NSW Gymnastics Association North West Regional Championships at Tamworth.
The Northern Inland Credit Union-sponsored club took advantage of the home facility by winning sixteen out of a possible seventeen overall regional champion trophies as well as bringing home an additional five second placings and six third place overall champion medals, club secretary and coach Jan McGinnity said.
“The club also picked up 60 first place apparatus gold medals, 34 silver medals and 20 bronze medals to be the strongest club in the region.”
Clubs from as far away as Orange, Dubbo, Inverell, Armidale and Gunnedah travelled to Tamworth to contest the North West championships, catering from the Prep Level gymnasts to the National Development Levels from level one through to level ten.
Overall regional champions from the Tamworth club were: Sophie Walker - Prep level 1 junior; Emma Byrne - Prep 1 senior; Maisie Wilde - NDP level 1 jnr; Sapphire Kuczer - NDP 1 intermediate; Marni Evans - NDP 1 snr; Harriet Fay - NDP 2 Jnr; Paige Seaton - NDP 2 Intermediate; Jemma Baker - NDP 2 snr; Charlotte Fay - NDP 4 Int; Caitlin Ham - NDP 4 Snr; Sharna Tapp - NDP 5 int; Amber Kuczer - NDP 5 snr; Georgia Pryer - NDP 6 int; Lauren Amor NDP 6 snr; Julia Hannaford - NDP 7 jnr; Philippa Tockuss - NDP 10 snr.
“The club was extremely pleased with these outstanding results,” McGinnity said.
“It is a good warm-up to the upcoming State Championships for level 4 and 5 and a good hit out for the level 1-3 gymnasts for their State Clubs’ competition and for all girls to get a qualifying score for the NSW Country Championships to be held in Orange in September.”
