His coaches, Graham Johnstone and Greg Poetschka, believe the young swimmer is a “boy on a mission”.
Johnstone said Deasey would compete at this weekend’s NSW Country Swimming Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
“He qualified by swimming extremely well at Bathurst recently, setting seven personal bests (PBs) out of the eight events he entered,” Johnstone said.
Both coaches have been impressed with the way the young man has applied himself to training so far this winter.
“Luke has worked really hard at training, especially on his kicking technique, and it’s a fantastic reward for him to attend the NSW Country Championships for the first time,” Johnstone said.
“He trains three times per week with the Kootingal-Moonbi Swimming Club during the winter months.
“He has had plenty of motivation to train hard, with more than 20 swimmers attending each of Kootingal’s training sessions this winter.
“Many of our summer swimmers have continued to train during the winter months, plus we have had another five new swimmers join our club this winter,” Johnstone said.
Both Kootingal coaches are looking forward to the upcoming winter carnivals, with all the “swimmers training the house down”.
They said new swimmers were always welcome.
