Officially Coledale does not exist. While people in Tamworth know the locality west of the railway line adjacent to Werris Creek Road by that name, the area is actually part of West Tamworth.

The Coledale name originated unofficially from a subdivision established by a former mayor of
Tamworth, the late Stan Cole and over the years the name has stuck.
While there is a Coledale in NSW it is a long way from Tamworth, sitting on the coast just north ofWollongong.
Tamworth’s Coledale sounds and looks a little like Hill Valley, the suburb in the Back To The Future movie trilogy which starred Michael J Fox.
But with $10.7m to be spent on the area as part of a federally-funded rejuvenation project initiated by
Tamworth Regional Council, perhaps
it is time that Coledale got a name
of its own.The makeover warrants a rebranding, which could help improve the image of the area.
With Tamworth void of any appealing locality names, perhaps the council could seek community comment and ask for suggestions? After all, there is nothing exciting about the names North, South, East and West Tamworth, Westdale or the other city suburb name of Oxley Vale.
We have a Calala and a Kingswood, but what about the introduction of a few more names which are well above
boring? Names like Turramurra,
Vaucluse, and closer to home
Nullamanna, and further afield, Palm Springs, have a certain ambience about them and a little more appeal.
No matter what is achieved with the multi-million dollar makeover, the area will remain known as the unofficial
suburb of Coledale – unless it is given an official name of its own.
Tamworth had the dearest unleaded petrol price in the state yesterday at an average price of 148.8 cents per litre, dearer than its usual rivals for top spot Tumut and Cooma. If you filled up in Glen Innes yesterday you would have paid 10 cents per litre less and 20 cents per litre less for diesel. How can this be?
