As part of the two-day festivities – hosted by the local jockey club today and tomorrow – the fashion’s on the field for men and women will be a feature of today’s program.
Ahead of the popular event co-owner of Walcha’s New Birds Boutique Helen Henry said she had been run off her feet with women visiting the store to find the perfect race-day outfit.
This year orange is in, hats are too, and fascinators are not only popular but bigger and better than before, according to Mrs Henry.
“Some people are buying the traditional race -day black and white,” she said.
“But so many are opting for the bright colours, the blues, pinks and orange.
“Orange is by far the most popular choice, in all different hues.”
Matching is in, too.
“People are definitely buying hats or fascinators and matching them to their dresses,” Mrs Henry said.
Tomorrow has been designated as kid’s day and entry for children is free.
In addition to a jumping castle, there is a bucking bull, a merry-go- round and train rides.
The children’s section of fashions on the field will be held in line with the other activities on Saturday too.
Walcha Jockey Club secretary Kevin Ferrier said things for the weekend were shaping up really well.
“In the 22 years I have been secretary I haven’t seen the facilities look as good as they do now,” he said.
Conditions on the track should be good, too.
“The rain last Friday and the warm temperatures since are setting us up well,” he said.
The annual race days usually attract about 1500 people but Mr Ferrier said with inquiries from a number of social clubs in nearby towns, he was expecting to maybe pip the 1500s this year.
