Jetgo ceases Tamworth-Brisbane route after competition from Fly Corporate

Jetgo Australia’s managing director Paul Bredereck suggested the recent competition from rival Fly Corporate had pushed his airline out of the market.

Fly Corporate doubled its number of flights along the route and upgrade the size of its planes in late January.

“Despite an obvious small core demand for the jet service, unfortunately the traffic demand and high costs cannot support two carriers on this route,” Mr Bredereck said.

“Therefore Jetgo has made the commercial decision to redeploy its aircraft onto other routes.”

The airline launched in Tamworth in March 2015. The Tamworth-Brisbane flight is the only route the airline flies from Tamworth Regional Airport.

It’s estimated about 1400 to 1500 passengers fly the Tamworth-Brisbane route every month.​

Flights up until May 13 will operate as scheduled. Passengers who have booked from May 14 onwards will be offered a full refund.

“The entire Jetgo team, wishes to thank those passengers that have supported the service and the entire Tamworth community,” Mr Bredereck said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause some customers.”

The news is a small hiccup for Tamworth Regional Airport, which is coming off the back of record passenger numbers.

It’s expected it will eclipse the 200,000 passenger number by the end of the year, while Tamworth mayor Col Murray said the $3.97 million upgrade of the airport terminal could attract another airline.
