Kay spent the most time on the court of any Boomer, with 29 minutes, against New Zealand and top-scored with 21 points in the 79-73 win.
The former Thunderbolt also picked up three rebounds and made two assists in Saturday’s match.
The win was Australia’s second of the tournament after winning their opener on Friday.
Up against Canada in their opening game of the tournament, the Boomers came away with a comprehensive 95-55 win in that game.
Kay racked up almost 22 minutes on court as he scored eight points along with two assists and three rebounds.
Every member of coach Andrej Lemanis' squad received at least nine minutes of playing time – five players scoring in double-figures in the lopsided win.
The unselfishness Lemanis had been so enamoured with in training was on show – Australia with 22 assists, compared to just eight from their opposition.
"We shared the ball really well. We've got to keep taking our opportunities to build as a group, so we can play finals basketball next week," Lemanis said.
"There's always some nervousness when we haven't played a game since the end of the NBL season, so to get back into it was good."
Australia has just one preliminary round to go – to played against Nigeria on tonight – before the finals start on Tuesday with the gold medal game to be played on Sunday.
