An information session at the Tamworth Services Club late last month attracted almost 50 members and community members who heard the club’s plans to build a new club on the North Tamworth Bowling Club site.
Under the plan, the Tamworth Services Club would need to be declared non-core property and sold with the club merging with the bowling club on Bligh Street.
Services Group board officials also hope to purchase the neighbouring Piper Street tennis courts site from Tamworth Regional Council as part of the expansion.

“We had a very good cross section of our members and even residents near by wanting to know what plans we had and what impacts it would have on the neighbourhood,” Services Group CEO Kristian Brooks said.
”To me, at the moment the general consensus seems to be very positive from members of both clubs. Most people seem to think it is a good idea and a way of the future.”
Mr Brooks said he hoped at least 150 people would turn up to cast their vote so the club could move forward.
”It’s always important for people to have their say,” he said.
Mr Brooks said if the proposal was passed by members, the Servies Group would then acquire a Real Estate agent to list the Marius Street club for sale.
“Once that is in place we will then start planning the North Tamworth development and talk to Council,” he said.
“All of our employees (from the Services Clubs) will move, there will be no jobs lost. It will give us an opportunity to have more revenue streams and we’ll probably be looking for more workers.”
The proposal would mean there would be a larger club, undercover parking facilities and bowling greens including the city’s first shaded synthetic green.
Also included is a children’s playground and possibly a three-to-four star hotel, which would be built at a later stage.
The vote will be held on Tuesday, April 10 from 7pm at the Tamworth Services Club.
