Chasing a modest 71 for victory, Tamworth secured the win five wickets down in the 28th over. The match was set up by some very tight bowling in the first session, restricting Inverell to 4 for 36 off the first 20 overs. Toby Ison bowled a good line and length finishing with 3 for 11 off his six overs, ably supported by “super sub” Jordan Lewington with 2 for 10 off six overs. Braith Patterson was also excellent tying up one end and being unlucky not to snare a couple of wickets himself.
The batting was led by Liam Bramley who got the Golds off to great start before being stumped by some excellent glovework by the Inverell keeper for 11 before Charlie Stone and Jordan Lewington steered the ship home.
“It was a great win for the boys and their best performance for the season. They’re a young team and their first season playing on turf. We had some tough results in the middle of the competition but it’s great to end on a high.” Golds coach Jon Stone said after the game.
In the meantime, the Tamworth under 12 Blues had a hard fought win over Narrabri to secure their spot in the grand final on Sunday. The Blues scored 5 for 210 off their 40 overs before restricting Narrabri to 8 for 177.
