About 7.30am today, a motorist travelling along Thunderbolts Way, south of Walcha, located a vehicle in a culvert.
The motorist contacted emergency services.
The body of the driver and sole occupant, a 59-year-old man, was found inside vehicle.
Police from Oxley Local Area Command are leading inquiries to determine the chain of events leading up to the vehicle leaving the road.

EARLIER: A PERSON has died in a single-vehicle accident near Walcha.
Police confirmed to The Leader this morning that the person involved in the accident was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Emergency services were called to Thunderbolts Way shortly before 7.30am this morning, a NSW Ambulance spokesman told The Leader.
It is reported that the sole occupant of the vehicle was deceased upon the arrival of ambulance crews, the spokesman said.
The vehicle is reported to have rolled.
The accident occurred about five kilometres out of Walcha on Thunderbolts Way.
It comes just one month after a 25-year-old man died on Thunderbolts Way, about five kilometres south of Walcha on December 23.
