Animal Justice Party's Skyla Wagstaff to contest New England byelection

Skyla Wagstaff, a regular volunteer, environmental advocate and of course animal lover, has been endorsed as the party’s representative in the byelection.

Ms Wagstaff stood for the party earlier this year, in byelection for the NSW state seat of Gosford.

“I am standing to represent the country people who have real concerns about the issues that politicians completely ignore,” Ms Wagstaff said,

“Some of these key issues include live export, the welfare of greyhounds, puppy factories, as well as the establishment of a federal Independent Office of Animal Welfare.”

The party isn’t just concern about animals – Ms Wagstaff said the party had a range of social and environmentally-friendly policies.

Ms Wagstaff is keen to increase plant-based agriculture “to support Aussie farmers”.

“Especially the local wheat producers, for long term sustainability,” she said.

“There can be no denying what we see in the media every day. From the ongoing suffering of Australian animals in live export, the threats to our land and native species in the form of coal mines, to race horses being destroyed on a regular basis.”

“In fact, even at this week’s Melbourne Cup, a race horse had to be tragically euthanised after a heavy fall while the racing continued. People do care about these important issues and that’s why I will speak up, for them, and all animals, along with protecting our valuable country for our future generations.

“I will support and advocate for a range of issues across animals, environment, our community and people, including human health on a platform of, equality, non-violence, kindness, and rationality.”
