Oxley’s journey included road trips to Quirindi and Byron Bay before the side made it through to the final eight.
The girls’ last game against Byron Bay was close for the majority of the match which allowed them to show their full potential.
“They really play for each other and that’s the way we won [against Byron Bay],” Oxley High teacher Gina Watt said.
“It was very close at three quarter time, there was just two points in it, and I said ‘it’s up to you if you want to win this’. They just went for it. They ended up winning by over 10.”
The eight sides in the girls championships will be split up into two pools.
Oxley takes on Mulwaree High School at 9.30am on Wednesday before matches against West Wyalong and Endeavour High Schools will follow on day one.
The top two teams from each pool will then play off on Thursday to be named champions while the bottom four teams will also play off.
Win, lose or draw, Watt knew there was one guarantee at the carnival – fun.
“They’re in it to have a lot of fun and the happier they are, the better they play,” she said.
“They’re a very passionate group of girls with a mix of abilities and ages.
“As a team we haven't done a lot of training, we haven't had a lot of time.
“We didn't expect to get this far but it’s been rewarding for the girls because they've done it by themselves and done it as a team.
“That’s what school sport’s all about.”
