In an online poll, more than 230 of The Leader’s readers showed their support for more regular access to the state’s second-biggest city as the NSW government announced its plan to completely replace the regional train fleet.
More than 37 per cent of respondents voted in favour of a return service to Newcastle, while 24 per cent leaned towards Sydney and 21 per cent wanted a daily Port Macquarie trek.

Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said he was going to start working out “some options for the community” regarding train services.
He also flagged opening up transport options to Dubbo.
Only six per cent of respondents to The Leader’s poll chose Dubbo as their first preference.
