The Tamworth pair have been named in the Burras side to contest the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia.
The side to play in the October tournament, which Australia goes into as the defending champions, was selected out of the 27-strong National Junior Squad.
“I’m pretty excited,” Farmilo said.
“I’ve been in the squad the last few years but not been picked in the team to go away.”
He initially thought he had missed out again when learning of his Workies’ team-mate’s selection, and not having heard anything himself. But a quick check of his parent’s email eased his apprehension.
Viewing it as a big step towards where he wants to go with his hockey, with the aim of the NJS to develop athletes to filter into the National Development Squad and then Hockey Australia High Performance Program, it will be Farmilo’s third time representing Australia internationally.
Back in 2014 he toured South Africa with the Australian Schoolboys and was part of the Australian men’s U18 team that played in the Youth Olympics qualifiers in Vanuatu.
For Hazell it will be his first time wearing national colours. He was selected in the Australian Schoolboys side last year but had to withdraw due to commitments with the NSW U18’s side.
Central to Workies’ dominance in the Tamworth first grade competition, the pair showed their class on Sunday as the minor premiers hammered a depleted South United outfit 17-5.
Both scored six goals in a game coach Andrew Farmilo said they didn’t really take much out of.
“The best thing out of it is we had a few defensive flaws. That’s something we can work on.” he said.
