Tamworth Regional Councillor Juanita Wilson was “horrified” by Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority figures which showed poker machines in the local government area turned over more than $879,000 every day.
Cr Wilson said council needs to keep this figure in mind when it comes to future developments and should ensure it does what it can to not perpetuate the issue.
The NSW budget projected pokies losses would rise by $332 million to a record $1.777 billion in 2020-21, according to The Alliance for Gambling Reform.
“We don’t push addictive cigarettes to get revenue, so both sides of NSW politics need to break their addiction to pokies revenue and escape pokies industry capture with its dangerous products and influence-pedalling which results in state-sponsored citizen abuse,” alliance spokesperson Allison Keogh said.
