Police have confirmed an elderly woman has died following an accident in Moonbi this morning.
Emergency services were called to the head-on collision about 8.10am on Gill St, Moonbi.
Police said three women were taken to hospital, but an 82-year-old woman from Moonbi died enroute.
Two women travelling in the other car, were believed to be from Coffs Harbour.
Crime scene officers have examined the scene, however the cause of the crash is yet to be determined.
Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police should contact Tamworth Police Station on 6768 2999.
EARLIER: A section of the New England Highway at Moonbi is expected to be closed for some time after an horrific two-car crash on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to Gill St, Moonbi about 8am following reports of a head on collision.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson confirmed three women were taken to hospital.
One is believed to be in a critical condition.
Crime scene officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time.
Diversions are in place.
