Tamworth Regional Council crews moved in to clear the fallen tree from the East Tamworth road from about 8.30am and worked into the afternoon on the clean-up.
While storms lashed parts of the state on Monday, Tamworth was spared from further storm damage with council reporting no other call-outs for clean-ups in the area.
Resident David McKinnon hoped the felled oak would “create an urgency” for preservation works on the avenue.
Mr McKinnon stressed the need to get “advanced oak trees” to replace the avenue’s older trees.
“It’s critical works get under way immediately,” he said. “So the ambience of the avenue is not lost.”
