Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) voted to create the group to try and ensure local advocates for the trees have a forum to air their thoughts and have a direct involvement in future conservation.
“We know that there is a group of dedicated residents who have great skills and a strong interest in the ongoing maintenance of the trees along the avenue,” TRC planning director Peter Thompson said.
“By establishing a group, we are creating an environment where they can voice their ideas, and also assist with the ongoing maintenance of the trees in-line with the conservation management plan.”
The proposal also recommended council fund the $2500 fee required for the submission of the Conservation Management Plan to the Office of Environment and Heritage, so it can be endorsed by April next year.
